I am flying out to meet my boyfriend's Italian mother and sister for the first time soon and desparately want them to like me as they are a VERY close family! Any suggestions on gifts to take and Italian etiquette for meeting and impressing???Meeting my boyfriends Italian female family. Advice Please?
Hi, I've been living in Italy for some time now. Okay, just be yourself.....sweet, respectful, intelligent, etc. Let them see that their son/brother did a good job in getting you as a girlfriend. If you want to bring a gift along, you could buy a bouquet of flowers for the mom and a good bottle of wine. I don't know where you live, but a bottle of good Californian wine is pretty much accepted or a good bottle of Italian wine (have your boyfriend help you). If you are having lunch or dinner at their house, try helping out (setting the table, slicing bread, etc.)....they probably will tell you you are a guest and to relax, but at least they will see that you didn't just sit on your butt the whole time and except to be served. Let's see what else. Try to dress nice....no mini-skirts or sloppy and baggy clothes. They don't want you to be dressed in Armani or Valentino, but dress some what nice and classy. Hope this helps....ciao.Meeting my boyfriends Italian female family. Advice Please?
My husband is Italian and has 2 sisters and a mother. They will be very pleased and impressed if you try to learn some Italian before you meet them (that is if you don't already speak it) just a few phases will do to show you have made an effort. Otherwise just be yourself and try to relax, if you are going to take gifts of clothing try to buy natural fibres (wool or cotton or linen) the Italians are not keen on synthetics. _ Good luck and enjoy yourself, the Italians are wonderful people.......I have been married to one for 30 years!
I'm italian, and i would want my brother girlfriends to just come visit, not bring any kind of gifts, just be as open as possible and get comfortable with me and my sister/mom.
Be very sweet to his mother and sister. That's all I can say. People in those places are very family oriented and love large family gatherings, and are also more forgiving and united amongst themselves. Good Luck!
Bring them wine.
Tell jokes %26amp; laugh at theirs. Be yourself, be sweet, be genuine.
We Italians aren't THAT hard to impress.
Bring over a bottle of wine, and Seasons 1 thru 5 of the Sopranos on DVD. And when they serve you something, DO NOT ask what it is; they will either be offended or they will make fun of you for not knowing. And under no circumstances are you to ask when your boyfriend might think of moving out of the house!!
Just be yourself when you are around them. When they ask you a question be honest with them. When they offer you food, don't refuse it. I'm Italian and I when I refuse my family's food, boy do I get it. LOL. Buy them a couple of suvionors from the city you are in. Hope this helps.
don't ask about the mafia for GODS sake
Be respectful, talk to them. Show you are a good person not just a good girlfriend. Eat what they offer, refusing would be rude. Bringing things that they don't have where they live, ask your boyfriend what they like. Maybe some souvenirs from your city. I wouldn't make something that is authentic Italian, if you don't make it to their liking, they might think you can't cook.
just b yourself, dont put on an act and for the love of god dont refuse their food!!!that is the ultimate offence to them.
why don't you take them a nice homemade lasagne or a spag bol or even a pizza that should impress don't you think!!
Italians LOVE there food. If they offer you food, eat it! Italians are very family oriented.
well welcome aboard! italian families could be very nice at first but once you get married the mom will try to be controlling you,so what you'll need to do at first is just play it cool get to know them and always appreciate his mom's cooking make compliments to his sister that way, you'll catch their hearts and please dress casually and avoid wearing too much makeup, or else the mom will just tell him,
';sei mata figlio mio questa qua non piace'; meaning( are you mad son i don't like this one)it's their mom that have a remote control coz it's like they all have inserted with a sensor when the boys where being breast fed!
to really impress try greeting them by kissing on both sides of the cheek....that麓s very Italian....they usually like when you bring something for a dinner party...good choice not only wine..but also a good loaf of authentic Italian bread!!!you麓ll score lots of points..
