Umm...female dog issue...advice needed!?

I just adopted my 8 month old female puppy a few days ago, and she started bleeding today. I have only ever owned male animals, so Im unsure any steps that need to be taken. I will be getting her spayed ASAP, probably as soon as she is done bleeding...Im wondering how long it lasts, any special care needing to be taken, do the 'diapers' work, etc. Any tips are greatly appreciated!Umm...female dog issue...advice needed!?
A heat cycle generally lasts 21 days. DO NOT let her get near ANY male dogs - even for a second. Do not leave her outside unattended. Males can smell it a mile away and will go to lengths to get to her.

It can be messy, so going to your local pet store and getting her a diaper of sorts may be a good idea.Umm...female dog issue...advice needed!?
FEMALE DOGS ARE IN HEAT GENERALLY 3 WEEKS.BIGGER BREED GENERALLY COME IN HEAT AT 6 MONTHS.A PET STORE HAS BELTS AS IT WERE THE DOG WEARS IN THE HOUSE SO AS NOT DRIP AND STAIN YOUR HOUSE.THE DOG WILL ';CLEAN ITSELF'; OTHERWISE.YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY SPECIAL DOG PADS FOR THE BELT- I HAVE USED REGULAR FEMALE PADS-THEY WORK JUST FINE.GOOD FOR YOU TO GET HER SPAYED ASAP AFTERWARDS!!
this happened with my puppy, i waited a bit too long and she came into heat. This makes the operation a little bit more expensive.Take her to the vet to get the op now. u don't want to risk having male dogs coming around and they will as they get the scent.

why do male pigs always sit next to me at the library on the computers, makes me sick and really agitated.
Everyone else already addressed the time frame for a heat cycle. I'm going to throw this in. Instead of buying doggie diapers...purchase a pair of panties that are about her size, cut a hole for the tail then use maxi pads to absorb any blood.

Good luck!
it takes three week and yes diapers is a good idea dont want her to destroy ur carpet or any thing u have such as beds thats jus nasty
Diapers work great an you can pick those up at your local pet store!

You may feel the urge to bathe her more often which is typical but not good for her fur/skin. You can wipe her off regularly with damp cloths or wipes.

Keep her away from male dogs and keep her on a leash and under your supervision until her heat cycle is over.

The cycle itself will last 21-28 days depending on the dog.
Bless your heart for taking this 8 month old under your care. 3 weeks for the in season question--days 5-18 seem to be the days they HAVE to be kept well away from males... tho to be safe-- Just keep them away for the whole 3+ weeks. They have female coverings, but they won't stop a determined boy from getting them off-- they MAY save your carpet and furniture from getting stained. Good Luck
A heat usually lasts round about three weeks - during that time you need to keep her well away from any males, to the point of walking her somewhere fairly isolated if need be and never allowing her out of your sight - they'll come from miles around. The diapers can prevent blood dripping in the house and can also help inhibit males from mating her, but would be no match for an insistent male and shouldn't be used for prevention of that.

Book an appointment for spaying for about a month after the last day of the heat, when all internal signs of heat will have returned to normal.
