Need some female advice.?

Well it's a long story so I will try to make it short. I was roommates with a girl. We hit it off. I kinda pushed things. She said she would try us. She then said she needed more time to be single. I found she came out of a 5 year relationship. I moved away. 6 months later we are talking a little more. I'm moving back in December and I get the feeling she is finally starting to get over her ex. Now here is the question. I Love this girl and I want a shot with her, but not sure how I should play it. Should I ask her how she feels and if she says she doesn't feel the same should I just leave. OR Should I play it cool and tell her I still have feeling for her. Let it build up and hang out more with her. I feel as if it is so hard to wait and almost feel that if she tells me now that she doesnt feel the same I need to move on. It's so hard because she is sooo confused. Any advice? I want to write her a letter... should I do it before I arrive?Need some female advice.?
What i would do is ask her about how she really feels about you then see what she says then go from there. Also take it nice and slow i know it is hard to be with out someone but if it is really meant for you to be together then you both well know when the time is right. Being in love is the most wonderful thing to have between two people. So if you like to write her a letter of how you feel about her then i would thank that it is very romantic thing that you want to do.
